Dr. Katie Dockweiler is a school psychologist and policy researcher. She is an assistant professor of School Psychology at Nevada State College and is a member of the Nevada State Board of Education. She is also a member of the Leadership Assembly for the National Association of School Psychologist and serves on many state level committees guiding policy relative to school-based mental health. Dr. Dockweiler designed the ARTERY Pipeline Framework for School Psychologists to remediate workforce shortages and is the co-founder of Healthy Minds, Safe Schools, a school violence and risk prevention program. From Workforce Shortages to Service Delivery Frameworks, how Policy can Help.
This session will focus on how to address school-based mental health workforce shortages through a policy perspective. It will contextualize real-life examples for how to create career pathways and multiple entry points in both higher education and school districts. Finally, school safety and violence prevention will discussed through a universal screening and intervention framework.Participants will learn how to address mental health prevention and response through a policy, workforce, and universal framework delivery lens.
Learning Objectives
- Attendee will learn several policy recommendations to support workforce development of school-based mental health providers.
- Attendee will learn various strategies to engage stakeholders to work toward a shared workforce vision.
- Attendee will learn how universal screening and interventions can support school safety and violence prevention.
